Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional bowel disorder characterized by abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits that are not associated with any abnormalities seen on routine clinical testing. IBS is usually described in a patient as either:
- IBS-D: diarrhea-predominant
- IBS-C: constipation-predominant
- IBS-A: alternating stool pattern
Common signs and symptoms of IBS
- Abdominal pain or cramping
- Alternating diarrhea and constipation
- Abnormal stool form (lumpy/hard or loose/watery stool)
- Abdominal bloating or feeling abdominal distension
- Urgency (having to rush to have a bowel movement)
- Mucus present in stool
- Bowel doesn’t fully empty after bowel movements
- Nausea
IBS is not considered a disease like other inflammatory bowel diseases such as Ulcerative Colitis or Chrons disease. Often on medical examination the patient is informed that there is no disease present, no cure and it’s just that the bowel doesn’t work properly.
We successfully treat IBS, it’s a specialty of all MAAC practitioners. We will investigate the reasons why an individual suffers from IBS including food intolerances, emotional stress or even bacterial infection.

Hemaview™ is an ideal tool to see the health of the gastro intestinal tract.
Urinary Indicans Test monitors the presence of indoxyl sulphate in the urine, which reflects excessive bacterial activity in the small and large intestines. This allows your practitioner to assess the levels of intestinal mucosal damage, irritation and inflammation or damage to intestinal mucosa.
